There are two types of natural resources:
RenewableSome types of renewable resources are: trees, fresh water, animals, and oxygen
NonrenewableSome types of nonrenewable resources are: coal, petroleum, copper, natural gas, and oil
Fossil Fuels

There are 3 types of fossil fuels:
Liquid -(petroleum)gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, diesel, fuel, and fuel oil are examples of liquid fossil fuels
Gaseous -(natural gas)gasoline, kerosene, and diesel are all types of gaseous fossil fuels
Solid -(coal)coal is an example of a solid fossil fuel
Problem with fossil fuels:
Fossil fuels provide energy but methods of obtaining them can have negative effects: petroleum problems, oils spills, smog, and acid precipitation; availability is limited; fossil fuels are nonrenewable resources; and obtaining and using fossil fuels have environmental consequences.
Alternative Resources

There are two types of alternative resources:
Fissionthe process in which the nuclei of radioactive atoms are split into two or more smaller nuclei; when fission takes place, a large amount of energy is released
Fusionthe joining of two or more nuclei to form a larger nucleus; releases large amount of energy
